MASTER KEY INFORMATION
DID YOU KNOW THAT LOCKS CAN BE KEYED TO MORE THAN ONE KEY?
A master key is a key that opens more than one lock that is also keyed to other keys. For example, if you have an apartment building and you want one key to open all the units plus a separate key for each unit.
A change key is a key that only opens one lock or a small group of locks in a masterkey system.
A submaster key is a key that opens a group locks in a master system. For example if you have two apartment buildings and you want a grand master key to open all the locks on both buildings and sub master key that only opens the locks on one building.
When you masterkey a lock it reduces the security provided by the lock. A masterkeyed lock is more vulnerable to lock picks or "bump keys". As you add more keys vulnerability increases exponentially! We recommend that you balance security and convenience by keeping it simple.
