Transponder Keys

We have the key blanks and programming equipment to make transponder keys. A transponder key is a key that has an RFID device imbedded, usually in the plastic head.

GM VATS keys often called "chip" keys are not tranponder keys. In 1996 FORD introduced PATS on the Mustang, Taurus SHO, and Mercury Sable. In 1998 FORD expanded it's use of RFID technology to several other models.

There were other early adopters such as Chrysler, Lexus, BMW and Mercedes. It did not take long before virtually all car makers jumped on the band wagon.

Most vehicles currently use an RFID device to confirm an authentic user. Many of them also have REMOTE HEAD KEYS.

We have the key blanks and equipment to duplicate RFID keys & replace them if they are lost.

Long's Locksmiths High Security

HIGH SECURITY KEYS can be found on cars, houses and businesses.

Most new cars have some type of high security key. Laser cut or side milled keys, dimple keys, and Abloy style Tibbe keys have been prevalent on Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, Jaguar and many other cars since the late eighties and early nineties.

Medeco and Schlage are two of several companies that manufacture HIGH SECURITY lock and key systems. Other popular brands include Abloy, Assa, MultiLock, BiLock, and Primus.

We offer Schlage Primus lock and key systems as an affordable HIGH SECURITY option.

We recommend Medeco locks for increased security and exceptional key restriction!

Restricted Key

What is a restricted key and why do I need one?

Restricted keys are keys that can not be duplicated without authorization. They are protected by patents, licensing agreements, and limited access to key blanks.

What about do not duplicate?

There are no laws that prevent unauthorized duplication of keys marked with DO NOT DUPLICATE also known as DND!

If you want to have any level of key control we recommend that you consider one of several restricted key systems we can provide and maintain for you. There are many types of restricted key systems. HIGH SECURITY LOCKS often use restricted keys but not all RESTRICTED KEY systems include HIGH SECURITY LOCKS.

We offer several types of restricted key systems with different levels of restriction.

Do Not Duplicate keys

There are no laws that prevent unauthorized duplication of keys marked with Do Not Duplicate also known as DND!

Some keys that say Do Not Duplicate are Restricted keys that can not be copied without proper authorization. It is a federal offense to copy P.O. Box keys.

If you are concerned about unauthorized duplication of keys we can set you up locks that use restricted keys.

Deadbolt Lock

We recommend installing deadbolt locks on all exterior doors and interior garage doors.

Some municipalities have city ordinances requiring deadbolt locks on all rental units. Deadbolt lock specifications vary. Please check local code requirements to find out what is currently required on any rental units you own.

Double cylinder deadbolts are generally not allowed on rental units.

We recommend that you have a thumbturn on the inside of any deadbolt lock in case of a fire.

Doorknob locks are designed to keep your friends from walking in without knocking. They are not designed to offer security. We recommend that you lock your deadbolt all the time. This is especially important when you are not home or when you are sleeping!

We can supply and install a deadbolt lock on any standard wood or metal door.

Safe & Safes

Would you like to purchase a safe for your home or business? We offer several styles and models of safes to fit all budgets. We also service, install, and open locked safes.

A burglary safe is designed to keep people out. A fire safe is designed to keep fire out. We recommend a combination burglary/fire safe for increased protection.

A data safe is like a fire safe but it will maintain a lower inside temperature.

Master Key

Did you know that locks can be keyed to more than one key?

We can set any lock to more than one key. Let's say you have a housekeeper, babysitter, or contractor who comes to your home to do work. You want to give them a key but you don't want them to have access all the time. We can set one lock, say the door knob on your front door, to two keys. Your regular key that opens all the locks and a key that only opens the door knob on the front door. When you don't want the "change" key to work you can lock your DEADBOLT.

A master key is a key that opens more than one lock that is also keyed to other keys. For example, if you have an apartment building and you want one key to open all the units plus a separate key for each unit.

When you masterkey a lock it reduces the security provided by the lock. A masterkeyed lock is more vulnerable to lock picks or "bump keys". For better security ask us about HIGH SECURITY LOCKS!
